Episode 51 - Interview with Dr. Chinwé Williams: Leading our Children in Conversations About Racism

I am so grateful to have Dr. Chinwé Williams on the Still Becoming podcast this month. Through her expertise, wisdom, and warmth Dr. Williams guides us through the topics of racial trauma, vicarious trauma, and talking to our children about racism, empathy, protests, and more. These are not one size fits all conversations, and Dr. Williams specifically addresses how these conversations will look different in Black families and white families. Dr. Williams describes parents as leaders, and leaders as learners. This is an empowering frame for parents. She guides us in how to listen to our nervous system, and ground ourselves as adults. We also get to hear some about Dr. Williams story, and one person that was part of her becoming who she is today. This conversation is rich, multi-layered, insightful, encouraging, and timely. To have an expert like Dr. Williams guide parents through these topics, how to talk to our kids, and how to listen to and care for ourselves is incredible. I learned so much from Dr. Williams, and I know you will too. This is an episode that will be passed between parents I am sure.

The In-Between
Still Becoming with Monica DiCristina
Still Becoming is a podcast about how it's never too late to become more free, more yourself, or try something new. We are all in the process of becoming more or less of something, of growing into ourselves. Informed by her own journey of struggling through anxiety to now working with others as a psychotherapist, Monica DiCristina interviews people about their stories of overcoming and becoming, or starting something new, as well as experts we can all learn from. We are not designed to stay the same, we are all still becoming.
