Hello ♡,
Sometimes it feels like the faces we love in our intimate circle carry a question mark. How will you love me? Who am I to you? What should I conclude about myself today?
The world is often rude and unkind, and the questions we, and those we love, carry around are often answered in that spirit out there: rude and unkind. Not always, but enough that most of us walk around knowing we could be hurt. The answers we get are often a version of NO. You are not ok with us, or wanted here, or valuable enough to give time to.
It is rough out there. There is pain upon pain in the world. Wars, tragedy, loss, and injustices. It never seems to stop. There is also unmonitored pain being taken out by hurting people on others. From the customer condescending and snapping at a store clerk, to road rage, to teachers overworked and irritable, to hurting kids hurting each other. I think most of us, even with completely different lives, could agree that the waters are rough, the tensions feel high, and the potential for pain is often.
I thought about this recently when one of my kids looked to me.
I don’t remember the content, or if there was even a direct question, but what there was? An opportunity.
In the swirl of this painful world, big and small, a quiet corner, a captive audience opened up to speak a YES into their heart.
YES: you are lovable.
YES: you belong.
YES: you are worthy.
YES: you are mine.
YES: I will never leave you.
YES: I will stay.
YES: I believe in you.
YES: I will hold all these truths even if the world does not. You will always have a YES in me for you.
It is as if the chaos whipping around all of us collectively, and each of us individually, can be slowed, paused, held back even, while we speak truth, love, and life.
We can carve out a space to answer YES to each person we love.
And the YES is not just for people we love, it is for us too. I believe it is God’s love embodied–always a welcome even when we feel we don’t deserve it, or the question marks we carry feel bigger than our own sense of belonging.
This YES is for you today too.
These words can be a meditation from you to you today, or if it resonates from God to you.
YES: you are lovable.
YES: you belong.
YES: you are worthy.
YES: you are mine.
YES: I will never leave you.
YES: I will stay.
YES: I believe in you.
YES: I will hold all these truths even if the world does not. You will always have a YES in me for you.
Welcome yourself, the ones you love, with a YES. Add to this list. Embodying YES, is a welcome mat we all need. In a world full of noise and pain, and NO, it is a quiet invitation into a place where we can belong, and know we are loved, away from the crowds and chaos.
With you,
Monica
