"Thank You for Appreciating My Sadness"💙
"Thank you for appreciating my sadness."
My youngest daughter said this to me one morning in the busy flurry of getting 3 kids fed, lunches made, everyone out the door - including the dog fed and walked, and my husband and I dressed to go to work. It's as busy as it sounds.
And there she was, in her little blonde bob haircut telling me a detailed story as I wrapped sandwiches up. She was sad, and not about something I would expect. And I don't even remember the exact words she said, or the exact words I said. But I remember clearly what she said next "Thank you for appreciating my sadness."
She felt seen. She felt heard. And I understood something deeper about sadness in that moment. Sometimes we really need someone to see it. To name it. And to actually appreciate it - to give weight to it, to understand how much it matters to us. It doesn't fix sadness, but honors it.
However big you sadness might be, and I know some of you are in big sadnesses right now - I hope you feel seen. Or, however small your sadness might be, those really matter too. Or for all the different sizes in between...
Your sadness deserves a sacred witness.
I think we all need that validation - for whatever it is.
I pray and hope you will have someone appreciate your sadness (get it, validate you, see you), no matter what type of size of sadness you're feeling.
And I hope this note today can be that for you too.

✨This is one of my favorite episodes so far. This episode we are talking 10ish things that I have learned as a therapist that I wish I'd known - and the hope is that they are helpful for you too. This is real kitchen table talk about the truths I have found over and over again from being a practicing therapist for quite a few years, It is like a cliff notes version of ideas I run into, or now return to, over and over again. I'd love to hear which ones resonated with you!
✨Each month, Still Becoming brings you a Mental Health Check-In episode. These episodes are focused on mental health, emotional health, or personal growth, and involve a short teaching and a few take aways in around 20 minutes. The idea is to take a therapeutic topic or technique and expand it to help us in our everyday lives.

PS - An important next step for publishers to consider my big book I am writing is to have a substantial email subscription list. This, thank goodness, has become my favorite way to connect and serve with the work I do creatively. But, I need your help - if this newsletter is meaningful to you can you point people you know to subscribing to it also? Here is the link: Subscribe. You can just copy and paste it to them. Thank you so much.
