It's Not You, It's Me...and Other Deep Thoughts
Hi ♡
I promise we didn't break up.
I haven't been able to keep up with all the things.
And the truth is I lost some steam.
And I lost some steam because I lost some hope.
I feel like hope is the fuel that produces the heat necessary for steam (or growth...or keeping on keeping on.)
Have you ever felt that way? I see this often in my therapy work: when we lose hope for change/growth/or progress - our energy goes too.
So this is me being vulnerable with you.
Producing all this content is incredibly hard work. And if I am REALLY honest I never got reality that until I did it. I just kind of brushed over other people's content, or worse, judged it. Now my content, or anyone's writing, is not for everyone. That is for sure. But I look at what people make quite differently now. Each letter. Each word. Each sentence came from their energy.
One thing I have learned is the power of small support. So if this work is meaningful to you - the podcast, the book, the Instagram posts, (waves hands around), any of these things...can I ask vulnerably that you would please share about it? Write a review? Tell people about the email subscription? These things really help keep the work going, and mean so much to me - they also help more people know about the work, which helps me to get more opportunities to create.
After a much needed break, I feel ready to jump back in, with renewed hope and direction and hopefully some special things coming in the future.
And more than anything: THANK YOU for being here.
Creating with you and for you is what makes this work meaningful.
Thoughts on healthy risk:
If many good things are on the other side of risk, we need to reframe our understanding of risk.
It isn’t a careless throwing of ourselves into danger.
It's an intentional advocacy for us and the good possibilities that may be on the other side of risk to meet.
Possibilities, that if fulfilled, will change me and the world for good.
And we are worthy of the good thing.
And the world needs more good.
And so it is therefore worth the risk.
Podcast NEWS: I am now putting out 2 episodes a month, rather than 3-4. It is more sustainable that way in this season of parenting and work. I will let you know if I find more margin for more episodes!
Recent Episodes:
Episode 91 - Conversation with Patricia Taylor: The Heart and the Cost of the Work
(Have you listened to this yet??)
Episode 92 - Guided Meditation: Unbecoming to Become
(Just released today!)
I am loving these books:
The Warmth of Other Sons, by Isabel Wilkerson
Untangled, by Lisa Damour PhD
The Self-Motivated Child, by Ned Johnson, William Stixrud PhD, et al
Finally,
“Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me... Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.”
